Questions people ask

What is Open a Gift?

Open a Gift is a free website for sending a virtual gift by link. You write a message, add a photo if you like, and choose how it opens: a gift box to unwrap, candles to blow out, a scratch card, a fortune cookie, a snow globe and more (15 reveals, 14 card designs and 21 ready-made templates). You can add a voice message, a link to your song, or a Yes/No question they answer. The recipient taps the link and opens it in their browser.

Is it really free?

Yes. Making, sending and opening a gift are free. There is no paid tier, no signup and no app for either side, and no watermark on the gift.

How do I send it?

Make the gift at openagift.com/create, then copy the link or use your phone's share sheet to send it in WhatsApp, iMessage, Messenger, Instagram, email or any chat. It opens in any phone or desktop browser.

Does the recipient need an app or an account?

No. They tap the link and the gift opens in their browser. When it is done they can make you a thank-you card or answer your Yes/No question; you see the answer, and whether it was opened, on your private manage link.

How long does a gift last?

The gift and its link stay until the sender deletes it; photos and voice messages are deleted 30 days after creation, and the gift then opens without them. Opening or replaying it never uses it up. If the gift has a photo, the recipient can save the photo from the opened card.

Can I schedule it or make them answer a question first?

Yes. Seal a gift until a date and time and the link shows a countdown until then, or add clue questions the recipient must answer before the reveal. You still send the link yourself, whenever you like.

Which occasions does it work for?

Birthdays, thank-yous, apologies, love notes, miss-you messages, congratulations, get-well and sympathy cards, and seasonal days like Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year. Every gift can carry your own photo and words.

Can I make a Christmas card or a December countdown?

Yes. Send a Christmas card inside a gift box or snow globe, or make a virtual Advent calendar with 7 to 31 daily messages. Each door opens on its date and the last opens the full card. You can also seal a gift until Christmas morning; you still share the link yourself, and no app or signup is needed.

Open a Gift is a free website for sending a virtual gift by link: a message, an optional photo and voice message inside an interactive reveal (15 reveals, 14 card designs) that the recipient opens in their browser. It is free to create, send and open. There is no signup and no app for either side, and no watermark on the gift. Gifts are private: only people with the link can open one. The link keeps working until the sender deletes the gift; photos and voice messages are stored for 30 days, then deleted. It opens in any phone or desktop browser, straight from WhatsApp, iMessage, email or any chat.
